WATERCOLOR
The rain splashed through the garden
like a diagnosis.
The clouds darkened the sky
and everything green or yellow or pink turned
even more green and yellow and pink.

An Invitation to write:
The Workbooks
I've found that writing comes easiest when someone else invites me to write. When a mentor, friend, or poem I read nudges or prompts me. I've gathered the most meaningful prompts from my own writing life to share with you. Let's write a poem!
Work With Matthew
You wrote some poems.
Maybe you wrote a whole book.
Let's talk about them.
Manuscript
Consultation
I believe no book is written alone. Drawing from 15 years of working with poets as an editor and consultant, I offer thoughtful, collaborative manuscript consultations designed to help writers see their work more clearly and shape the book they’re trying to make.
Poetry
Classes
These poetry studios are a place to come together, support one another's creativity, and explore what it means to be a writer.
Speaking &
Readings
I love sharing my work and learning from others' work. My talks and readings are more conversational than lecture-like and centered on human connection.
Poetry
Mentorship
Poetry is made in conversation—with our lives, our reading, and with other writers. My mentorships offer an ongoing space to talk honestly about your work, your creative practice, and where you want your writing to go, with thoughtful feedback and guidance along the way.
